Theos Medical Diagnostics is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, and patient-focused Medical Laboratory Scientist to join its team in Kasoa. Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform and oversee laboratory investigations that support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. The successful candidate will ensure that laboratory tests meet established standards for accuracy, reliability, timeliness, and quality. The role will involve specimen collection and processing, laboratory analysis, equipment management, quality control, result verification, documentation, and collaboration with clinicians and other healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will also provide effective supervision and guidance to laboratory staff and promote a culture of professionalism, accuracy, safety, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Perform laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently in accordance with approved procedures and professional standards. Receive, identify, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for laboratory analysis. Collect blood and other clinical specimens where required and ensure proper specimen-handling procedures. Conduct routine and specialised laboratory tests across relevant diagnostic disciplines. Analyse specimens using approved laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment. Review and validate test results before releasing them to authorised healthcare professionals. Identify abnormal, inconsistent, or critical results and escalate them promptly according to established procedures. Maintain accurate and confidential patient and laboratory records. Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory analysers, instruments, and equipment. Conduct routine equipment checks and report faults or maintenance requirements promptly. Perform quality-control procedures and monitor laboratory results to ensure accuracy and consistency. Investigate quality-control failures and take appropriate corrective action. Participate in internal and external quality-assurance programmes. Ensure laboratory activities comply with applicable professional, regulatory, safety, and quality standards. Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory processes. Maintain appropriate levels of reagents, consumables, and other laboratory supplies. Monitor expiry dates and storage conditions for reagents, test kits, and laboratory materials. Support inventory management and communicate procurement requirements to management. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment. Apply appropriate infection-prevention and control measures throughout laboratory operations. Handle biological specimens, chemicals, sharps, and laboratory waste safely and responsibly. Ensure proper segregation, storage, and disposal of laboratory waste. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results. Communicate professionally with doctors, nurses, patients, laboratory colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. Provide appropriate technical information to clinicians when clarification of laboratory findings is required. Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and contribute relevant laboratory insights to patient care. Investigate discrepancies, errors, or unusual laboratory findings and implement corrective measures. Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, quality-control results, equipment maintenance, and incidents. Prepare laboratory reports and operational information as required by management. Support the implementation of new laboratory procedures, technologies, and diagnostic services. Stay current with developments in laboratory science, diagnostic technologies, quality systems, and professional practice. Supervise, guide, and support laboratory technicians, assistants, and other assigned staff. Allocate duties appropriately and monitor the performance of supervised team members. Coach junior laboratory personnel to improve technical competence, accuracy, and adherence to procedures. Conduct or support staff training, competency assessments, and professional development activities. Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the laboratory. Participate in audits, inspections, accreditation activities, and quality-improvement initiatives. Perform other laboratory and supervisory responsibilities assigned by management. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent recognised qualification. Must hold the appropriate professional registration/licence required to practise as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Ghana. Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience, preferably within a medical laboratory, diagnostic centre, hospital, clinic, or related healthcare environment. Demonstrated experience performing clinical laboratory investigations and interpreting laboratory findings. Experience operating and maintaining laboratory analysers and diagnostic equipment. Experience implementing quality-control and quality-assurance procedures. Knowledge of laboratory information systems is an advantage. Experience supervising, training, or mentoring laboratory staff is preferred. Current knowledge of laboratory safety, infection prevention, and biomedical waste-management practices.
