We are seeking an experienced and technically accomplished Lead Engineer – Electricals to provide engineering leadership across electrical systems, plant equipment, maintenance, reliability, and asset management. The successful candidate will drive initiatives that improve equipment availability and reliability while ensuring electrical engineering activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality, technical performance, and regulatory compliance. Job Summary The Lead Engineer – Electricals will provide technical and operational leadership for electrical systems supporting the mining and mineral-processing operations. The role will focus on maximising plant equipment reliability, developing effective maintenance strategies, managing technical standards and documentation, supporting engineering projects, and resolving complex electrical equipment failures. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, planning, contractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines to maintain reliable equipment and support continuous production. Key Responsibilities Plant Reliability & Electrical Engineering Lead initiatives to maximise the availability, reliability, and performance of plant electrical equipment. Provide technical direction on electrical systems, equipment, drives, switchgear, and associated infrastructure. Identify electrical reliability risks and implement effective corrective and preventive measures. Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements that increase reliability and reduce unplanned downtime. Provide engineering support during equipment breakdowns, maintenance activities, upgrades, and operational challenges. Ensure electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and within approved technical parameters. Engineering Standards & Technical Compliance Prepare and review electrical engineering specifications, datasheets, technical scopes, and related documentation. Ensure specifications meet applicable engineering, quality, safety, statutory, and regulatory requirements. Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with approved specifications and operational standards. Review technical drawings, calculations, design reports, equipment specifications, and vendor documentation. Ensure electrical engineering activities comply with applicable Ghanaian mining regulations and company standards. Review and approve engineering changes and modifications in accordance with established procedures. Vendor & Equipment Management Coordinate with electrical and instrumentation equipment vendors to ensure compliance with approved project specifications. Provide technical input into the selection of electrical equipment, cable sizes, protection systems, and associated components. Review vendor drawings, calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and equipment documentation. Evaluate proposed technical solutions against operational, reliability, safety, and maintenance requirements. Monitor vendor performance and provide technical guidance during equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and handover. Support technical evaluations of electrical equipment and services where required. Maintenance & Reliability Management Work with maintenance planners to develop effective preventive and predictive maintenance schedules. Ensure electrical maintenance work orders are properly planned, prioritised, and completed on schedule. Monitor maintenance performance using relevant KPIs and identify opportunities for improvement. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations into significant electrical equipment failures. Develop corrective actions that address recurring equipment failures and improve long-term reliability. Apply condition-monitoring techniques, including thermography and insulation resistance testing, to assess equipment condition. Drive initiatives that improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and reduce Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). Analyse equipment history and maintenance trends to identify opportunities for improved reliability. Spare Parts & Asset Management Optimise electrical spare-parts inventory to support equipment availability while controlling unnecessary stockholding. Identify critical electrical components and establish appropriate inventory requirements. Monitor supplier lead times for critical items and take proactive measures to prevent stock shortages. Support accurate asset-register management and equipment lifecycle tracking. Ensure critical equipment information remains current and accessible to maintenance and engineering teams. Technical Documentation Maintain accurate and up-to-date electrical drawings, schematics, manuals, specifications, and technical records. Ensure technical documentation remains accessible to authorised engineering and maintenance personnel. Update documentation following equipment modifications, upgrades, maintenance interventions, and project completion. Maintain appropriate records of equipment testing, inspections, modifications, and maintenance history. Training & Capability Development Develop structured training programmes covering electrical and automation disciplines. Provide systematic technical training to engineers, technicians, skilled workers, maintenance personnel, and other relevant employees. Train personnel on specialised technical skills, equipment operation, emergency response, maintenance standards, and electrical safety regulations. Identify technical competency gaps and recommend appropriate development initiatives. Promote continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence within the engineering and maintenance teams. Leadership & Team Management Lead and motivate multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams to achieve safety, reliability, and production objectives. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, supervisors, technicians, and other technical personnel. Promote a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Coordinate effectively with operations, maintenance, projects, process, safety, and other departments. Manage contractors and service providers to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality delivery. Monitor team performance against agreed KPIs and drive corrective action where required. Additional Responsibilities Prepare technical reports and provide engineering recommendations to management. Support continuous improvement initiatives across electrical maintenance and engineering activities. Perform any other related duties assigned by the Supervisor in support of the company’s operational requirements. Qualifications & Experience Minimum Qualifications Recognised Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from a recognised institution. MINCOM Competency Certificate, with a minimum of Registered Inspection Engineer status. Membership of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) will be an added advantage. Experience Minimum of 8 years’ experience in gold mineral processing or a related mining environment. At least 5 years’ experience in a Senior Electrical Supervisor, Lead Electrical Engineer, or similar senior technical role. Demonstrated experience managing large-scale fixed assets within a mining or mineral-processing operation. Proven experience leading electrical maintenance, engineering, reliability, and asset-management activities. Technical Knowledge & Competencies The successful candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge of: Industrial electrical systems and equipment. Electrical drives, switchgear, and protection systems. High-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical systems. Motor starting and control systems. VFDs, fault diagnostics, and electrical protection. Thermography and insulation resistance testing. Electrical equipment reliability and maintenance strategies. Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Industrial communication between electrical drives and plant control systems. Mining electrical safety regulations, including Ghana’s L.I. 2184. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash prevention, and hazardous-area classification. CMMS platforms such as SAP, Pronto, or equivalent. Applicable mining safety, environmental, and statutory regulations. Technical drawings, engineering specifications, and CAD applications. Microsoft Office and technical reporting tools.
