We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Heavy-Duty Automotive Mechanic to join our team in Accra. About the Role As a Heavy-Duty Automotive Mechanic, you will inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, commercial vehicles, and related mechanical systems. You will use your technical knowledge and diagnostic skills to identify faults, complete repairs efficiently, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure vehicles meet required safety and operational standards. You will work closely with workshop colleagues, supervisors, parts teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure vehicles return to service safely and reliably. Key Responsibilities Inspect and diagnose mechanical faults in heavy-duty vehicles and commercial vehicles. Carry out preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing according to manufacturer and company requirements. Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension systems, steering systems, drivetrains, cooling systems, and other mechanical components. Conduct diagnostic tests and use appropriate tools and equipment to identify faults accurately. Remove, repair, replace, and reinstall defective mechanical components. Perform engine tune-ups, oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and other routine maintenance activities. Inspect braking, steering, suspension, and other critical safety systems. Identify potential mechanical problems before they lead to vehicle breakdowns. Respond to vehicle breakdowns and carry out appropriate repairs where required. Test vehicles after repairs to confirm that systems operate correctly and safely. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, servicing, parts used, and other workshop activities. Communicate identified faults, repair requirements, and technical recommendations clearly to supervisors. Work with the parts team to identify and obtain the correct replacement components. Use workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery safely and responsibly. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment. Follow all company safety procedures, workshop standards, and applicable vehicle regulations. Minimise vehicle downtime by completing repairs efficiently without compromising quality or safety. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices, workshop efficiency, and vehicle reliability. Support other technicians and contribute to a collaborative workshop environment. Qualifications & Experience Technical, vocational, or trade qualification in Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant professional or technical certification will be an advantage. 3–5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive mechanic, with experience working on heavy-duty or commercial vehicles preferred. Candidates with 5–10 years of relevant heavy-duty automotive maintenance experience will be strongly considered. Experience working with trucks, buses, construction vehicles, commercial fleets, or other heavy-duty equipment is an advantage. Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle mechanical systems. Experience using vehicle diagnostic tools and workshop equipment. Practical understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance. Good knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
