We are seeking a technically strong and proactive Electrical Engineer – Automation to support the reliability, optimisation, maintenance, and development of electrical and automation systems across our mining and mineral-processing operations. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering expertise with practical problem-solving skills to maintain reliable electrical and automation systems, support major projects, improve equipment performance, and strengthen the technical capability of the maintenance team. Job Summary The Electrical Engineer – Automation will provide technical leadership and engineering support across electrical, instrumentation, automation, and control systems within the mining operation. The role will focus on maintaining and optimising electrical and automation systems across crushing, milling, flotation, CIL, elution, thickening, tailings, reagent, and associated processing facilities. The successful candidate will also manage assigned engineering projects, troubleshoot complex technical issues, maintain accurate engineering documentation, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Safety, Compliance & Team Performance Promote a strong safety culture across electrical and automation activities. Ensure team members understand and comply with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable mining regulations. Drive continuous learning and technical development to improve team performance and operational efficiency. Ensure electrical and automation activities comply with applicable statutory, environmental, and industry requirements. Apply safe systems of work, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical isolation, arc-flash prevention, and hazardous-area controls. Lead by example and maintain high standards of professionalism, accountability, and safety awareness. Electrical & Automation Systems Monitor, maintain, and optimise electrical and automation control systems across crushing, milling, flotation, CIL, elution, thickening, tailings, and reagent systems. Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, and control-system faults to restore operations safely and efficiently. Investigate recurring failures and implement sustainable corrective actions. Support the reliability and performance of high-, medium-, and low-voltage electrical systems. Troubleshoot communication issues between electrical drives and plant control systems. Optimise motor starting systems, synchronization, VFD parameters, and electrical control systems. Support the maintenance of transmission lines and associated electrical infrastructure. Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, availability, and efficiency. Engineering Projects & Commissioning Manage the full lifecycle of assigned electrical and automation projects from initiation through commissioning and close-out. Develop pre-project technical plans, scopes, schedules, and resource requirements. Coordinate construction and installation activities with contractors, vendors, and internal teams. Implement appropriate project controls and monitor progress against approved schedules and budgets. Supervise installation quality and ensure work meets approved engineering specifications. Ensure contractors follow required safety, quality, and environmental standards. Coordinate system commissioning, functional testing, acceptance activities, and data transfer. Verify that completed systems meet operational, technical, safety, and reliability requirements before handover. Maintain accurate project documentation and complete project close-out activities. Electrical Equipment & Asset Reliability Ensure electrical equipment within the gold room, laboratory, and MSA LV/HV workshop operates safely and reliably. Plan and execute scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance to minimise breakdowns and extend equipment life. Monitor equipment condition and recommend appropriate maintenance or replacement strategies. Support the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programmes. Use maintenance data and equipment performance indicators to identify reliability improvement opportunities. Contribute to reducing unplanned downtime and improving equipment availability. Technical Documentation & Records Management Collect, review, organise, archive, and maintain engineering documentation throughout the equipment lifecycle. Maintain accurate electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, user manuals, and technical specifications. Maintain records of Certificates of Conformity (COC), factory test reports, certificates of conformity, material certificates, and other relevant documentation. Ensure engineering documents remain current and accessible to authorised personnel. Review technical documentation to confirm compliance with approved specifications and project requirements. Maintain accurate records of equipment modifications, upgrades, commissioning activities, and maintenance history. Equipment Acceptance & Asset Register Develop and implement standard procedures for the acceptance of newly delivered electrical and automation equipment. Verify equipment models, technical parameters, quantities, specifications, and qualification documents upon arrival. Identify discrepancies and coordinate corrective action with suppliers and relevant stakeholders. Establish and maintain an accurate and dynamic electrical equipment register. Ensure equipment records remain current and provide clear traceability throughout each asset’s lifecycle. Support effective asset management and maintenance planning through accurate equipment data. Training & Technical Development Develop and deliver training programmes covering electrical and automation systems. Train technical personnel in advanced electrical and automation skills. Provide practical training on equipment operation, fault diagnosis, system troubleshooting, and safe working practices. Identify technical competency gaps and recommend appropriate development initiatives. Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the engineering and maintenance teams. Maintenance Planning & Reliability Support the planning and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules. Use KPIs to monitor equipment availability, maintenance effectiveness, and workforce productivity. Analyse equipment performance and maintenance data to identify trends and recurring failures. Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations. Recommend improvements that increase equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime. Use CMMS platforms such as SAP, Pronto, or equivalent systems to support maintenance planning and reporting. Additional Responsibilities Work closely with operations, maintenance, projects, safety, and other departments to achieve operational objectives. Manage contractors and service providers effectively and ensure they meet technical, safety, and quality requirements. Prepare technical reports and provide engineering recommendations to management. Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor in support of the company’s operational requirements. Qualifications & Experience Minimum Qualifications Recognised Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from a recognised institution. MINCOM Competency Certificate, with a minimum of Registered Inspection Engineer status. Membership of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) will be an added advantage. Experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in gold mineral processing or a related mining environment. At least 3 years’ experience in an Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor or similar technical leadership role. Demonstrated experience managing large-scale fixed assets within a mining or mineral-processing environment. Proven experience supporting electrical and automation projects, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Technical Knowledge & Competencies The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of: Electronics and industrial electrical systems. PLC programming and automation systems. SCADA and process-control systems. High- and medium-voltage switching systems. Industrial communication networks. Electrical drives and plant control systems. Motor starting methods, synchronization, fault diagnostics, and VFD parameter tuning. Transmission-line maintenance. Mining electrical safety regulations, including Ghana’s L.I. 2184. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc-flash prevention, and hazardous-area classification. Root Cause Analysis and reliability-management practices. CMMS platforms such as SAP, Pronto, or equivalent. Mining safety and environmental regulations. CAD software and Microsoft Office applications. Technical drawings, electrical schematics, specifications, and engineering documentation.
