The school is seeking a skilled, reliable, and health-conscious Cook to prepare nutritious and well-balanced meals for learners and staff while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and service. The successful candidate will manage daily kitchen activities efficiently and work closely with school administration to provide quality catering services that support the wellbeing of the school community. Role Overview As a Cook, you will take responsibility for preparing and serving meals according to approved menus, nutritional requirements, and school standards. You will maintain a clean and organized kitchen, manage food supplies, monitor stock levels, use kitchen equipment safely, and ensure that meals reach learners and staff on time. Key Responsibilities Meal Preparation & Service Prepare nutritious, hygienic, and well-balanced meals for learners and staff. Follow approved recipes, menus, portion sizes, and dietary requirements. Prepare meals in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the school community. Ensure meals meet appropriate standards for taste, quality, presentation, and nutrition. Prepare and serve meals according to established schedules. Consider age-appropriate nutritional needs when preparing meals for learners. Accommodate approved dietary restrictions and special meal requirements. Maintain consistency in food quality and portion control. Minimize food waste through proper planning, preparation, storage, and portioning. Menu Planning Assist the school administration with planning weekly and seasonal menus. Recommend nutritious and cost-effective meal options. Help develop balanced menus that provide variety and appropriate nutritional value. Provide input on ingredient requirements and quantities needed for planned meals. Food Safety & Hygiene Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness. Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, utensils, equipment, and storage areas regularly. Follow food safety and hygiene procedures at every stage of food preparation. Prevent cross-contamination by handling and storing food appropriately. Check food quality and freshness before use. Store raw and cooked food correctly and at appropriate temperatures. Monitor food expiry dates and remove unsuitable or expired items. Dispose of food waste responsibly and maintain proper waste-management practices. Follow all applicable health, safety, and food-hygiene regulations. Stock & Kitchen Management Monitor food and kitchen supply levels and report replenishment needs promptly. Receive and inspect food supplies and confirm their quality and quantity. Maintain accurate records of food supplies and kitchen inventory. Store food items properly to preserve quality and prevent spoilage. Use ingredients responsibly and help control kitchen costs. Maintain and organize kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies. Use kitchen appliances and equipment safely and responsibly. Report faulty, damaged, or unsafe equipment to the appropriate school authority. Support routine maintenance and cleaning of kitchen facilities. Teamwork & School Support Work collaboratively with school administration and other support staff. Coordinate meal preparation and service with school schedules and activities. Respond professionally to feedback from school management. Support catering requirements for school events, meetings, programmes, and special occasions. Maintain a respectful and positive working relationship with learners and staff. Follow school policies, procedures, and standards of conduct. Respect and support the Christian values and ethos of the school. Perform other kitchen and catering duties assigned by management. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Cook. Experience working in a school, restaurant, catering company, hotel, hospital, or similar institutional kitchen will be an advantage. Demonstrated ability to prepare meals for large groups efficiently. Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and nutrition. Understanding of proper food storage and handling procedures. Ability to manage kitchen supplies and minimize food wastage. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet meal-service deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional conduct. Willingness to work within a Christian school environment and uphold its values.
